Civil Engineering Specialist - Road Design

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Civil Engineering Specialist in their Highways Bureau. The role involves assembling road plans packages, conducting engineering analysis, administering contracts, and overseeing projects and project design.

Responsibilities

Participate in assembling road plans packages for highway projects
Create road plans packages that entail proposals and evaluations of alternates, computations of geometric data, estimation of plan quantities, creation of design models, assembly of plan sheets, incorporation of recommendations from other technical specialists, and composition of specifications needed to build highways
Conduct in-depth engineering and analysis, administer contracts, oversee projects and project design, and may serve as a lead worker

Required

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field
6 months to 2 years of related work experience for Mid-Level – Civil Engineering Specialist 2
2 to 4 years related work experience for Top Level – Civil Engineering Specialist 3
Proof of passage of the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE) for Mid-Level – Civil Engineering Specialist 2
Proof of passage of the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE), Engineering Intern Certification (EIT), or licensed Professional Engineer for Top Level – Civil Engineering Specialist 3
Develops sufficient engineering knowledge, skill, and judgment in a specific practice area
Broad knowledge of engineering practices and principles and construction methods, processes and procedures
Skills in effective oral and written communication
