Investment Officer (Real Estate)

Responsibilities

Assist the Senior Investment Officer in managing and investing the Fund’s assets in global real estate markets
Conduct pre-investment due diligence and provide analytical support for investment recommendations
Balance long-term strategic objectives with short-term performance goals through market research and portfolio analysis aimed at outperforming benchmarks
Monitor assigned portfolio holdings and conduct security and performance analysis of external real estate managers
Ensure compliance with OIM’s investment policies, procedures, and risk control parameters
Integrate Principles of Responsible Investment into investment analysis and ongoing monitoring of internally and externally managed holdings
Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and present findings at internal Portfolio Review Meetings
Perform portfolio-level analysis using risk management and analytical tools
Evaluate opportunities in publicly traded REITs to complement and diversify the Fund’s private real estate portfolio, ensuring alignment with investment objectives and risk parameters
Conduct fundamental analysis of potential investments using financial statements, market data, and industry research
Review and synthesize research from internal teams and external advisors, strategists, economists, and research providers
Develop and maintain financial models using Excel to support valuation and investment decision-making
Assist in evaluating the quality of recommendations from the Fund’s external advisors and assess manager performance
Participate in interviews with fund managers and review fund documentation and legal structures
Contribute to investment recommendations that meet the Fund’s four investment criteria: safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility
Participate in discussions related to asset allocation decisions, including private market co-investments
Assist in preparing timely and accurate reports for the RSG, CIO, and senior management when requested
Support reporting on investments and related matters to governing bodies
Promote transparency, accountability, and accurate record-keeping in all aspects of portfolio management
Attend investment conferences and seminars to remain connected with academic and industry experts
Travel domestically and internationally as required, approximately once per month

Required

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is required
A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in quantitative and qualitative investment analysis in commercial real estate markets is required

Preferred

CFA or CAIA designation is desirable
Investment management experience in commercial real estate is desirable
Experience working within an institutional investor environment such as pension funds, endowments, or foundations is desirable
