Responsibilities
Integrate and support laboratory instruments and equipment using industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Profibus, Modbus, and Analog I/O
Develop, manage, and maintain instrument data exports (CSV/XML) to centralized data repositories, historians, or NAS platforms
Design, deploy, and support remote alarm and notification systems to improve operational responsiveness
Configure, manage, and maintain virtual machine environments supporting laboratory control systems and data workflows
Partner closely with IT teams to implement and manage secure network infrastructure, including servers, domain controllers, VLANs, firewalls, system backups, and access controls
Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities , including hardware installation, I/O checkout, testing, and documentation
Diagnose and resolve automation, system, and network issues , coordinating with internal stakeholders and external vendors as needed
Manage automation system configuration, change control, and lifecycle documentation to ensure system reliability and business continuity
Provide hands-on automation support for day-to-day laboratory operations, minimizing downtime and maximizing system performance
Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and process engineering teams to enhance laboratory automation capabilities
Deliver training and technical guidance to laboratory scientists and operators on system functionality and automation best practices
Qualification
Required
Minimum 5 years of experience supporting process automation or control systems
Hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS or comparable distributed control systems
Solid understanding of industrial networking, including VLANs, switches, and firewalls
Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Proxmox VE
Prior experience in bioprocessing environments, particularly those utilizing single-use technologies
Familiarity with bioprocess unit operations including cell culture, harvest, and chromatography
Strong understanding of industrial automation architectures and system integration principles
Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of automation initiatives
Proven expertise in troubleshooting complex issues across hardware, software, and network layers
Experience supporting commissioning, qualification, and validation in regulated environments
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
