Material Handler- Warehouse- Apparel Sorter

Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is a nonprofit organization focused on providing job training and employment services. The Apparel Sorter is responsible for sorting and preparing donated apparel for sale in the salvage market, ensuring quality and maintaining a clean work environment while meeting production quotas.

Responsibilities

Meets minimum daily quota set for assigned department of 12 Gaylords or more and 1,300 pounds or more
Inspects donated merchandise, as required, analyzing quality and determining proper category
Tallies each Gaylord that is processed, then weighs all summer, winter and biggie Gaylords and records onto tally sheets
Responsible for recording ending weights at the end of the day and starting weights in preparation for the next day
Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or misappropriation or unauthorized possession of company property
May be cross trained to work as a warehouse employee and/or Forklift Operator
Maintains a clean work environment, including restrooms, floors, walls, windows, and parking lots, as directed
Receives and processes clothing pulls from the retail stores, inspecting quality, type of material, size and/or style of clothing, determining if it goes into a summer Gaylord, winter Gaylord or Biggie Gaylord
Non-qualifying items go into a separate Gaylord and are re-routed to the clearance store
Maintains workstation in an organized and safe manner free from food, drink, or other personal items
Responsible for following and ensuring all safety rules are complied with, and appropriate safety equipment is used. Immediately acts and/or reports any unsafe or potential hazards

Required

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
Ability to be trained and take direction
Ability to speak and read English proficiently
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be able to use a calculator to add and subtract numbers
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable
Ability to read and write reports, compile data as needed
Communicates effectively with others and provides essential customer service duties either verbally or via computer e-mail
Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Able to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Must have open/flexible availability and be willing to work evenings & weekends
