Autocad Designer
L.K. Jordan & Associates is seeking an experienced AutoCAD Designer with a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design for commercial building projects. The role involves developing detailed AutoCAD drawings, interpreting engineering redlines, and producing high-quality design documents while adhering to established drafting standards.
Responsibilities
Develop detailed AutoCAD drawings for MEP systems across commercial building projects (approx. 10,000 sq. ft. range)
Interpret engineering redlines, design requirements, and reference detail sets
Organize complete drawing packages with minimal supervision
Identify required details, label them appropriately, and follow established formatting and pen-setting standards
Produce 60% design documents from marked-up plans or past project references
Perform basic engineering-related calculations (e.g., duct sizing based on airflow)
Create plumbing layouts and riser diagrams
Clearly depict ductwork and piping systems using double-line representation with color, shading, and accurate line weights
Convert between PDF and AutoCAD formats and integrate graphics or photos into drawings
Utilize 2D AutoCAD as the primary drafting tool; limited 3D drafting as needed
Generate equipment schedules and other technical documentation using spreadsheet integrations
Qualification
Required
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting required; 3D capabilities beneficial)
Ability to read and differentiate electrical circuitry, wire sizes, and MEP system components
Clear understanding of MEP design drawing conventions
Ability to follow established drafting standards and match existing drawing 'look and feel.'
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including entering formulas/equations) and Microsoft Word
Strong organizational skills with the ability to produce accurate, well-coordinated drawing sets
10+ years of AutoCAD experience in MEP design within architectural, engineering, or commercial design environments
Proven ability to independently develop drawing sets with minimal oversight
High school diploma required
Preferred
Ability to use compliance tools such as COMcheck
Two-year technical or college degree preferred
Additional training in AutoCAD, rendering, or graphic design is beneficial
