Fabrication Production Engineer

Responsibilities

Translate approved design into manufacturable processes for welding, assembly, and fabrication
Develop and validate welding procedures (WPS/PQR) where none exist or prior documentation is incomplete
Implement standardized work instructions, inspection protocols, and process flow documentation to ensure repeatable, compliant manufacturing
Design or specify fixtures, jigs, and tooling needed for assembly and welding operations
Develop and qualify manual welding procedures (GMAW and GTAW) for steel and tubing assemblies per existing design specifications
Collaborate with a CWI or qualified welding professional to verify WPS and PQR compliance
Provide on-floor technical support for fit-up, distortion control, and weld quality issues
Ensure traceability of welds to production lots and maintain proper documentation
Work closely with production teams to implement consistent, repeatable welding and assembly processes
Establish process controls to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and company quality standards
Train production operators on WPS, SOPs, and inspection requirements
Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and reduce rework while maintaining regulatory compliance
Maintain process documentation and inspection records for all assemblies
Ensure full regulatory compliance for manufacturing
Support audits from the OEM or regulatory authorities
Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for weld or assembly defects
Coordinate with the design team to ensure processes align with the approved design
Work with suppliers to ensure components meet certification and conformance requirements
Act as the primary technical resource for welding and fabrication issues

Required

Knowledge of AWS welding codes and standards (D1.1, D1.3) and welding procedure documentation (WPS/PQR)
Ability to create, qualify, and implement WPS's in a production environment
Strong understanding of process control, inspection, and shop-floor problem-solving
CAD skills for fixture and tooling design (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
4–10 years of experience in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing engineering for structural assemblies
Experience with manual welding, steel fabrication, laser-cut parts, press brake assemblies, and tubing fabrication
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to effectively present information to top management
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical analysis, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Windows and Office, data analysis, 3D Modeling (Solid Works, Inventor, Catia, Creo) CAD, ERP
