Responsibilities

Serve as the main communications officer, writer, media relations coordinator, marketer, photographer, videographer and spokesperson for the state’s transportation Highway Divisions 2 and 3
Plan, develop, execute and evaluate communication strategies and plans that promote the department and its programs to both internal and external audiences
Write news releases, articles, and communication related materials
Shoot, edit and produce video stories, social content and other multimedia elements that support the mission of NCDOT and Highway Divisions 2 and 3
Update and maintain public-facing project information
Help gather information for public records requests
Be in an on-call rotation
Assist the Communications Office during crisis situations

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution
Two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work
Demonstrated ability to write and edit using AP Style
Demonstrated ability to understand and synthesize complex information and write in a clear, succinct, storytelling style
Experience with media relations, including on-camera experience
Photo and video shooting, editing and storytelling
Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, X, Nextdoor and YouTube
Skills in organization and demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines
Experience in content management systems (Sprout Social, Meltwater, SharePoint, Drupal) and Microsoft Office
Flexibility to travel and adjust work schedule to meet the needs of large-scale projects and crisis situations
Writing Samples Required
