Applications Engineer II (MAD-SN-OR)
Hitachi High-Tech America, Inc. is seeking an Applications Engineer II to provide technical product support focused on failure analysis of semiconductor technologies. The role involves conducting demonstrations, developing applications, providing training, and supporting customers during tool installations and acceptance tests.

Responsibilities
Technical product support for FIB-SEM (primary) and TEM (secondary)
Provide applications support for customers through recipe automation audits
Deliver compelling product presentations
Provide sample-run activities and product demonstrations to customers
Conduct technical product training on instruments and applications for customers and internal staff
Understand and provide technical solutions to customer’s technical requirements through applications support
Analyze customer samples for sales opportunities and technical support
Assist internal staff and customers with technical support and application issues
Review customer application needs with sales and technical staff
Serve in a technical support role during sales calls
Resolve technical product line issues and problems
Key account technical management
Provide technical requirements to the factory for continued and next generation product development
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
BS degree in related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Driver's license with acceptable driving record with the ability to be covered under the company's insurance
Two (2) years' relevant work experience
Five (5) years' experience in related materials science applications or semiconductor FA applications
Five (5) years' experience working with FIB-SEM instrumentation with some TEM experience
Ability to effectively communicate information to customers and management regarding all activities and schedules
Basic knowledge and understanding of physics and chemistry
Strong verbal and written communication skills with management, co-workers, and customers
Ability to work with minimal instructions
Ability to work on assignments that are complex utilizing considerable judgement and initiative
Ability to give training classes remotely or onsite on complex system theory to both field engineers and customers
Ability to effectively interface with customers, service department personnel and others
Equipment specific operation skills
Understanding of equipment electronics
Ability to give advanced customer training
Ability to assist Field Service Engineers with problems they encounter in the field
Ability to transfer technical knowledge to less experienced engineers through on-the-job training (OJT) or classroom training
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to successfully complete complex problems
Ability to use considerable judgement in resolving problems and making recommendations
Ability to see small objects within a confined area with or without accommodations
Ability to identify and distinguish color-codes
Ability to transport parts and toolbox from car to equipment site with or without accommodations
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodations
Hand-eye coordination at a level to support activities with very fine (delicate) to large, leveraged type items with or without accommodations
Ability to communicate and receive communication via telephone and pager with or without accommodations
Ability to hear audible noises
Preferred
MS degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field is a plus
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) experience is strongly preferred
Programming experience in scripting languages, Python, C, and C++, MATLab is a plus
Project management experience is a plus
Experience developing new products, technical functions, or applications through customer collaboration is a plus
Domestic and international travel up to 30%
