Pharmacy Supervisor (Clinical Services)

Responsibilities
Performs supervisory functions for clinical pharmacy personnel as identified in the pharmacy organizational chart
Responsible for the management of the assigned clinical service pharmacy clinics and practices
Responsible for assessing the current clinical pharmacy programs assigned and establish expansion of clinical programs based on the need of the Medical Center (e.g., Substance Use Disorder, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Opioid Safety Initiative, etc.) in coordination with the Associate Chief of Pharmacy, Clinical Services
Assists with the oversight of the comprehensive medication management and pharmacy services provided by Pharmacy staff
Responsible for the review of medication regimens within area of clinical practice and notifying providers of any findings that might require action
Advises provider on aspects of clinical pharmacokinetics as it pertains to the monitoring of serum plasma concentrations and its relationship to patient response
Proactively provides ongoing communication related to the pharmacy programs under their supervision to professional staff
Participates in the training and in-servicing of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and other medical center personnel as required
Works with Human Resources Management (HR) to expeditiously recruit for vacant positions and to select qualified employees, meets all HR established processes, timeframes, and deadlines
Develops the ability of staff and others, as appropriate, to perform and contribute to the organization through coaching, mentoring, and providing ongoing feedback and by granting opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship
Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12)
Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy
Skill in managing people or programs
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Preferred
ASHP accredited PGY-2 residency completion or equivalent experience
At least 1 year of direct patient care experience beyond PGY-1 training within the last 3 years
Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties certification, or other recognized certification, such as CDE or BC-ADM
