The N.C. Department of Information Technology is part of the Adult Correction agency, responsible for the care and custody of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The Correctional Admissions Technician position involves preparing reports and forms based on information from offenders entering a diagnostic processing center, as well as performing crisis intervention and routine counseling.

Responsibilities

Preparing written reports and forms which accurately reflect information obtained from offenders entering an adult male felon diagnostic processing center

Reading and interpreting legal documents effectively and accurately

Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling including suicide prevention

Recognizing abnormal behavior and taking appropriate actions in accordance with established procedures

Required

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of correctional or human services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Must be able to read and interpret legal documents effectively and accurately

Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling including suicide prevention with the ability to recognize abnormal behavior and taking appropriate actions in accordance with established procedures

Working knowledge of the objectives, techniques, and regulations of a prison environment

Basic knowledge of the techniques of interviewing

This position is critical to and unique to the Diagnostic Center and has to be filled by trained staff who are responsible for running of NCIC prior to offenders arrival, setting up of field jacket, offender orientation, interviewing, entering social history and commitments prior to giving to the Case Analyst for processing
