Wireless System Engineer - Traveling
RJM Technologies is a fast-growing technology consulting firm serving the federal government, and they are seeking a Wireless Systems Engineer to support their military customer base. The role involves sustaining the Navy’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure, troubleshooting systems, and coordinating with the Navy’s AMI team to ensure operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Sustain the Navy’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) field installation points
Interface and coordinate with the Navy’s AMI team to ensure meters are fully operational and report back to assigned systems
Program, test, and troubleshoot AMI system components, including EI smart meters, Cisco/other wireless radios, Cisco field switches, and 2.4/5.8 GHz wireless antennas
Terminate all necessary cabling, including LMR400 coax and CAT5/6
Inspect existing wireless radio, antenna, and cabling infrastructure to verify proper installation, deployment, and sizing
Coordinate with customer to arrange system surveys
Make travel arrangements (routing, hotel, airline) as required
Perform on-site surveys of installed systems to assess operational status
Troubleshoot systems to determine root causes of outages
Assess switch, wireless radios (Cisco/other), and smart power meter functionality
Make onsite repairs if possible, including equipment configuration, cable replacements, and power supply replacement
Write assessment reports detailing findings, repairs, remaining outages, and requirements to return systems to operational status, including necessary equipment or parts
Qualification
Required
U.S. citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
Experience with wireless (Wi-Fi 2.5/5.8 GHz) systems
Familiarity with Cisco switches
Security+ Certification
Experience with wireless systems (antennas/LMR cable)
Familiarity with TCP/IP networking
Knowledge of basic networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP)
Knowledge and experience with basic serial protocols (RS-232, RS-485)
Ability to collaborate well with team members, take ownership of projects and initiatives, and work effectively with limited supervision in customer-oriented environments
Preferred
Familiarity with the Navy's AMI Metering Program
Cisco or vendor-neutral wireless certification (CCNA Wireless, CCNP Wireless, CCIE Wireless)
Experience designing, installing, or troubleshooting various wireless sensor networks
Experience with electric meter (socket type) programming and replacement
