Development Services Permitting Expediter
The City of Hollywood is hiring for a Development Services Permitting Expediter who is results driven with proven leadership and organizational skills. The role involves managing the plan review process, inspection activity, and ensuring exceptional customer service while adhering to the Florida Building Code.

Responsibilities
Manages the daily permitting operations of the Department and ensuring professionalism is maintained and exceptional customer service is provided at all times; Understands the goals of the department as it relates to customer service
Confers and coordinates with departmental representatives, as necessary, on matters pertaining to the permitting process, policies, and procedures
Addresses more complex customer problems directly (or in conjunction with City management) when customer problems cannot be resolved by lower city staff, or at the customer’s request
Analyzes customers’ complaints, their permitting issues, and presents the results to the customer in a helpful, tactful manner
Assists in planning and directing permit activities; Conducts customer service training sessions for city staff
Interprets regulations and standards and disseminates advice by responding to in-person and telephone inquiries from interested parties
Facilitates subordinates to investigate and resolve complaints received regarding alleged code violations
Reviews inspection reports and permit status; confers on further actions
Assists in instructing and training subordinates in inspection, permitting enforcement activities, and customer service
Prepares and maintains operational reports, records, and correspondence concerning the permitting process for the City
Understands and interprets the Florida Building Code, City code, ordinances, and procedures
Assigns chief inspectors to various special projects as needed
Reviews and analyzes reports, plans, and specifications submitted from department
Prepares material for updating the contractor/homeowner procedures manual staff and consultants to ensure compliance with prescribed standards and regulations
Assists and prepares occupant load certificates for commercial establishments in cooperation with the Fire Department
Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Hollywood
Assumes the responsibilities of the Chief Building Official in his or her absence
Establishes and maintains effective and professional relationships with work colleagues across multiple departments, supervisors, managers, and the public
Effectively and positively represents the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction or a related field plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in building / construction inspection activities and operations with three (3) years in a supervisory capacity
A minimum of two (2) years work experience shall have been within the jurisdiction of the HVHZ
Candidate must have substantial knowledge of the permitting process across all trades and operating departments with the ability to provide accessible customer service from application to completion
Preferred
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction or a related field
Certified as required by the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) and Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA), as a Standard Plans Examiner and Standard Inspector in one of the following disciplines: Structural, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical (Structural Discipline preferred)
Seven (7) to Ten (10) years of progressively responsible combined experience in a government setting as a Master Electrician, Electrical Contractor, General Contractor, Master Mechanical, Mechanical Contractor, Class A Air Conditioning Contractor, Master Plumber, Plumbing Contractor, Chief Inspector, Plans Examiner or Inspector employed by a municipality or private company contracted with a municipality
Possess a (1) Current Certificate of Competency, (2) Florida Registered Professional Engineer License or (3) Florida Registered Architect License issued by a official professional licensing board
