Public Works Inspector II

Louisville Metro Government is seeking a Public Works Inspector II to inspect the construction of roadways, sidewalks, and appurtenances within the public right-of-way. The role includes mentoring Public Works Inspector I and working independently to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

Reviews construction and planning drawings, and analyzes and interprets blueprints and other technical information
Responds to the public regarding right-of-way questions and problems
Attends meetings and provides information on right-of-way operations
Inspects sites proposed for right-of-way closure and submits recommendations
Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts
Prepares samples of materials for laboratory testing
Monitors work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed and materials used conform to plans and specifications
Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods
Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports
Computes monthly estimates of work completed and approves quantities
Validates levels, alignment, and elevation of installations, using surveyor's level and transit
Conducts site distance, sidewalk, right-of-way obstructions, Handicap parking zone and fire hydrant inspections
Performs bond release inspections, reviews claims, gathers information for legal proceedings, and testifies in court
Trains Public Works Inspector I’s on codes and specifications, procedures, and record-keeping
Performs related work as assigned

Required

Associate's Degree
Two (2) years of inspection in heavy highway, utility construction, survey or drafting or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Must possess or obtain Construction of Concrete, Aggregate Sampling Technician, Grade Level Technician, and Asphalt Field Technician certifications within 6 months of employment
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history

Preferred

Bachelor's or Master's degree in construction, architecture, drafting, engineering, fire science or related
4 years of inspection in heavy highway, utility construction, survey or drafting or related experience
