Senior Technical Support Specialist

The State of Maine's Department of Administrative and Financial Services is seeking a Senior Technical Support Specialist to join their Office of Information Technology. This role involves building and administering robust Linux systems, focusing on automation and collaboration with technical teams to enhance technology solutions for the state.

Responsibilities

Develop, test, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and modules for infrastructure automation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation requirements and implement effective solutions
Optimize existing Ansible-based solutions for performance and scalability
Produce detailed documentation for system artifacts, workflows, and processes
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in Linux systems, Ansible scripts and automation workflows
Contribute to infrastructure as code integration and automation initiatives

Required

A minimum of 8 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience
Strong understanding of mainstream Linux operating systems, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting techniques
Strong understanding of system automation approaches and techniques
Strong system troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with cloud platforms (For example Oracle, Azure, AWS, etc.) and hybrid cloud strategies
Understanding of automation design, development methodologies, APIs, and system integration best practices
Familiarity with security frameworks and ability to apply policy when designing system configurations and automation processes
Proven experience with all aspects of Linux system administration, ideally Red Hat and/or Oracle
Proven success with Ansible development, including writing custom playbooks, roles, and modules
Proven experience administering Linux systems in both local and cloud data centers
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash
Proven ability to learn and integrate code with external APIs to support system integration
Experience with infrastructure-as-code principles and tools
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
Ability to stay ahead of technology trends and adjust skills to meet evolving technology needs
Ability to assess system performance metrics, propose and implement solutions for improvement
Navigate large-scale enterprise IT environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Maintain IT solutions that adhere to legal, regulatory, and security standards
