Responsibilities
Maintain excellent knowledge of assigned market space including the customers, vendors, their geographies and the products
Source products from a variety of suppliers, within a specific product category
Decide on the items to procure, identify suitable suppliers, negotiate essential sales and marketing contracts, secure inventory, and find the most effective ways to support the sales teams in promoting and selling our products
Provide training to cross-functional teams and the businesses we serve on how to sell the product to the end user
Develop and execute a category plan that delivers maximum results for the assigned category
Develop and maintain highly effective and strategic alliances with suppliers
Work closely with the Inventory team to ensure that the right product assortments are stocked appropriately and available on demand
Conduct regular retail pricing benchmarking and analysis to set pricing that maximizes sales and profit margin
Collaborate closely with sales peers to develop the optimal product mix recommendations for the category
Support all marketing and operational initiatives
Assume other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
5+ years of product management or sourcing/purchasing experience
Category management experience with a retail chain or wholesaler/distributor environment
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in a business or related field
Experience in the industry-specific to the particular category for which the position manages
