Responsibilities
Works under the direction of a Project Engineer as a lab technician or inspector, supporting all phases of civil construction projects such as roads, bridges, airports, and utilities
Monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards, documenting contractor methods, quantities, and productivity
Performs field and lab testing of construction materials (e.g., asphalt, concrete, soil), collects and records data, and assists with surveys, computations, and project documentation
Supports project administration by preparing pay estimates, maintaining inspection diaries, and compiling materials records for project closeout and QA review
May be assigned to other DOT sections in the winter (e.g., Materials, Bridge, Design, ROW, Environmental) to provide technical support as needed
Qualification
Required
Copy of Current Alaska Driver's License
Education credentials must be verified with transcripts
Experience in inspecting construction activities or components of a project
Experience in performing survey line, grade, or quantity work
Experience in conducting field materials testing
Experience in preparing or collecting traffic data or studies
Experience in using surveying or GPS equipment
Experience in reading plans and preparing field documentation
Experience in working with contractors or engineers on construction projects
Experience in preparing yourself, roadways, equipment, or project sites for winter conditions
Experience in implementing or following safety protocols, including hazard identification or Job Hazard Analyses
Preferred
First aid/CPR certificate
American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) certificate
American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Traffic Supervisor certificate
NRC nuclear densometer certificate
