Responsibilities
Preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
Function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff
Assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action
Performing complex accounting and payroll functions to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
Preparing and reconciling Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) reports
Monitoring and resolving accounting and payroll system interface issues
Processing vendor payments with accurate reconciliation
Overseeing tax reporting and reconciliation for federal and state requirements, including Forms 941 and W-2
Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for payroll accounting
Providing payroll certification training to internal staff and agency partners
Preparing and reviewing journal vouchers (JVA/JVD) for payroll-related transactions
Serving as manager for the Accountant 2 and Accounting Technicians 1 and 2 within the payroll unit
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or closely related field and two years of experience performing professional accounting work
Bachelor's degree in business administration and three years of experience performing professional accounting work
One year of experience as an Accountant II in Nevada State service
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant
