Roadway Technician

Responsibilities

Install and maintain traffic control signing and barricading during emergencies and floods. Prepare, clean, and maintain traffic control devices for lane/road closures, detours, bypasses, and shoulder work in County work zones following Federal, State, and County traffic control plans
Inspect barricades, lights, signs, sandbags, and sign spacing daily to ensure proper traffic control set-ups. Provide flagging for work zones, including using STOP/SLOW paddles or handheld radios
Create work orders and tasks, complete daily written reports, enter information into the asset management system (Cartegraph), and document pre-trip/post-trip inspections on all assigned equipment
Participate in special projects, emergencies, Palo Verde drills/exercises, flooded roadway response, and on-call/standby 24 hours for emergency requests. Install and program message boards and speed monitors for special events throughout Maricopa County, as needed
Install and maintain traffic control signing, and barricading during emergencies and floods
Perform manual labor assignments and load/unload materials, supplies, and equipment, and deliver to job sites as directed
Assist in building, repairing, maintaining, clearing brush and debris, and landscaping of roadways and roadway structures such as pavement, culverts, headwalls, fences, and guardrails
Operate a variety of trucks, power equipment, and manual tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures, including sandbagger, forklift, skip loader, etc
Perform other duties as assigned; some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift

Required

One year of experience in traffic control, or traffic operations, including installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, or two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or construction of roads
High school diploma or GED
Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagging certification within six months of hire

Preferred

Experience working in the public sector
Experience in a maintenance environment, including mowing, sweeping, tree trimming, sprinkler repair, and/or weed spraying
