Senior Accountant - Project Job Cost Accountant

Precision Contractors is seeking a Senior Accountant / Project Job Cost Accountant to maintain and manage the financial health of the company and its construction projects. This hands-on role involves cost tracking, budget control, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and contractual requirements.

Construction

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead
Maintain and manage company-wide receipts and invoices
Monitor and record project costs to ensure accuracy and consistency with approved budgets
Track commitments, actuals, and pending costs for materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment
Maintain job cost ledgers and detailed cost reports
Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting on project performance
Reconcile project-related general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of cost allocations
Assist with preparation and review of financial statements, internal reports, and audit schedules
Support month-end and year-end close processes including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
Participate in internal and external audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations
Prepare, maintain and forecast annual budgets and present to management
Collaborate with project management load project budgets into Foundation
Ensure coding is accurate for tracking costs and budgets
Prepare monthly project cost reports, including budget vs. actual analysis
Generate financial forecasts and cost-to-complete reports for stakeholders
Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Track retainage, change orders, and contract values throughout the project lifecycle
Perform month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
Prepare internal financial statements and management reports
Investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions or cost-saving opportunities
Support the creation of dashboards and visual reports using Excel or ERP software
Review, verify, and process subcontractor and vendor invoices per the contract terms and conditions
Assist with AIA billings, progress billings, and WIP reporting
Reconcile and resolve discrepancies with stakeholders
Ensure all credits are properly managed and collected
Track client payments for accuracy and report out to project management
Collaboratively work with project management and clients to resolve any issues with client payments
Ensure all financial transactions comply with contracts, internal policies, and GAAP standards
Review all contracts to ensure financial compliance and accuracy
Track lien waivers, insurance certificates, and retainage in alignment with contract terms

Ability to proactively collaborate with Sr. Management, staff, co-workers, and outside entities
Ability to represent the company in a positive and professional manner when interfacing with Precision personnel and/or outside entities
Ability to develop and maintain relationships within the company and external entities
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to pass a drug test and criminal background check
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
5 - 7+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the construction or real estate development industry
Strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly job cost accounting and WIP reporting
Proficiency with Foundation accounting software, Procore, or similar ERP platforms
Strong working knowledge and experience working with the MS-Office suite of tools
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are a plus
Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to explain financial data to non-financial teams
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity

Preferred

Familiarity with project management processes and terminology
Experience with construction project accounting, including billing schedules, AIA forms, and change orders
Knowledge of lien releases, certified payroll, and subcontractor compliance documentation
CPA or CMA certification (or progress toward certification) is a plus
