Governor's Summer Intern - INDOT - Traffic Safety

Responsibilities

Conduct detailed crash analyses on locations of interest on the state roadway network within the Crawfordsville District
Conduct visits to these locations to gain insight on field conditions
For each location, the Intern will use the detailed crash analysis results and field exploration findings and consult the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to make recommendations on potential signage and marking improvements that could enhance traffic safety. Present recommendations to the District Traffic Engineer
In accordance with the District Traffic Engineer’s decisions, prepare work orders to guide District Traffic Operations to install the signage and marking changes in the field
Prepare a presentation for the Crawfordsville District to reflect on projects’ accomplishments and skills/experience gained during the internship period
Other duties as assigned

Required

Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Indiana Driver's License required to operate state vehicles
Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
Analytical skills
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to operate computer tools, including GIS and various Microsoft office software products
Good research and writing skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
