Responsibilities
Prepares various microbiological media (broths, tubes, plates) used for identifying and quantitating bacteria of interest and concern
Makes chemical reagents used in the preparation of media
Maintains complete and accurate records
Operates autoclaves, pH meters, dispensing units, balances, glassware washers
Performs quality control as needed of supplies
Serves as back-up analyst for microbiology sections by performing standardized tests on food, dairy, water, and other
Qualification
Required
Two years of experience performing routine, standardized analytical tests and laboratory procedures in accordance with well-defined written instructions AND high school courses in chemistry, biology, mathematics, or any course which included laboratory work
Or an equivalent combination of training and experience
An Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science may substitute for one year of the required experience
Some walking & heavy lifting no more than 30 lb maybe required
Preferred
Experience working in a laboratory setting (not just academic labs)
Experience preparing and maintaining records of microbiological media and reagent preparation
Experience using analytical tools: pipets, balances, volumetric glassware, etc
Experience keeping accurate and legible records
Experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
Able to work alone or with a team as tasks require
