Assistant Area Engineer (Civil Engineer) - Alpine TX
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a driven and dedicated Assistant Area Engineer to join our team in Alpine, Texas - a gateway to Big Bend and a place where your engineering skills will help shape the future of rural mobility. This role involves assisting in directing area office operations, managing employees involved in various engineering activities, and ensuring the efficient operation of the area office in the absence of the Area Engineer.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assists Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project as required responds for emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities
Conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings
Determines quantities and estimates cost
Establishes horizontal and vertical alignments
Inspects roads, monitors maintenance activities and coordinates scheduling of maintenance work with construction projects
Investigates accidents
Keeps abreast of current transportation design innovations, modifications, laws, regulations, policies and procedures
Oversees right-of-way, design and/or plan preparation for area office
Plans and schedules work of construction personnel and/or provides them on the job training
Prepares and/or recommends field changes and supplemental agreements
Prepares and/or reviews monthly and final estimates and final construction reports
Resolves public complaints
Reviews plans prepared by area office personnel; checks designs, specifications and estimates
Works with governmental officials on behalf of the Area Engineer
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
4 years transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid U.S. driver's license
Licensed Professional Engineer (TX Lic Prof Engr)
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
