Field Biologist (On-Call)
Bancroft Construction Services (BCS) provides environmental compliance and biological monitoring services for infrastructure projects. They are seeking an On-Call Field Biologist to conduct biological surveys and ensure compliance with environmental regulations during construction activities.

Responsibilities
Conduct general biological reconnaissance surveys, habitat assessments, and focused (including protocol-level) surveys for special status plant and wildlife species (e.g., CA gnatcatcher, least Bell’s vireo, burrowing owl, San Diego cactus wren, Quino checkerspot butterfly, Stephen’s kangaroo rat, arroyo toad, fairy shrimp, bats, etc.)
Perform nesting bird surveys and monitoring; identify species and nesting behaviors by sight and sound in compliance with applicable buffer requirements and permit conditions
Conduct biological and environmental compliance monitoring during active construction activities
Coordinate with construction crews, superintendents, and project managers to ensure compliance with biological permit conditions and environmental commitments
Complete pre-construction surveys and daily monitoring documentation
Provide environmental awareness and sensitive species education to construction personnel
Accurately collect field data, photographs, GPS points, and monitoring observations and submit daily reports
Assist with data entry, organization, and management of biological records
Interpret and apply biological permit conditions, regulatory documents, and agency approvals
Communicate field observations, compliance concerns, and schedule availability to project managers and senior biologists
Perform other field or office support tasks as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in biological surveys, biological consulting, or construction/environmental monitoring
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and access to a reliable vehicle
Preferred
Strong familiarity with Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego County wildlife and plant species
Experience working with special-status species (federal or state listed, candidate, or sensitive species)
Familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, CESA, and FESA requirements
Experience using GPS units, Survey123, ArcGIS, ArcCollector, or similar field data collection tools
USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) permit or similar authorizations (preferred, not required)
