Privacy Counsel – Bay Area, Hybrid
Solutus Legal Search is assisting a market-leading AI assistant and productivity platform in their search for a Privacy Counsel. The attorney will play a vital role in shaping the company's privacy function and will work cross-functionally with various teams to support the global privacy program.

Responsibilities
Advise product, engineering, security, and business teams on data privacy, security, and compliance requirements across the product lifecycle
Provide practical and actionable legal guidance regarding obligations under global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other U.S. state and international regulations
Support and participate in privacy impact assessments and proactively identify potential privacy risks
Assist with the development, maintenance, and updating of internal privacy policies, guidelines, and compliance frameworks
Monitor evolving privacy laws, regulations, and enforcement trends and help translate requirements into actionable guidance
Respond to customer privacy inquiries and data subject requests in partnership with Security, Support, and other internal teams
Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related provisions in customer, vendor, and partner agreements, including data processing agreements
Help design and deliver privacy and data protection training for internal stakeholders
Support cross-functional technical privacy initiatives, including data retention, deletion, anonymization, and related compliance efforts
Assist with privacy-related aspects of M&A and integration activities
Advise on and support implementation of the AI governance program
Track industry best practices related to privacy in SaaS, AI, and cloud-based technologies
Qualification
Required
JD from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar
4–6+ years of relevant privacy counseling experience, ideally within a technology company, B2B SaaS environment, or top law firm
Solid working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)
Experience supporting B2C and/or B2B SaaS products; familiarity with AI and cloud technologies is a plus
Experience partnering with Product, Engineering, Security, and business teams in a fast-paced environment
Strong drafting, communication, and issue-spotting skills, with the ability to provide practical guidance
Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable recommendations
Comfortable managing multiple priorities with increasing independence in a high-growth setting
A collaborative, pragmatic mindset
History of developing a culture of getting to 'yes, if…'
Preferred
CIPP or other privacy certification is a plus
Experience with industry-specific privacy regulations (COPPA, FERPA, BIPA, CUBI, HIPAA, AADC)
