Residential Camp Inclusion & Behavior Specialist

West Suburban YMCA is a charitable organization that focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. They are seeking a Residential Camp Inclusion & Behavior Specialist who will support special needs and special population campers and collaborate with staff to create a safe and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities

Actively participate in and lead portions of All Staff Training and meetings
Follow established state laws, ACA regulations, and camp policies regarding camp health care
Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff
Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization
Help to maintain an inventory of supplies needed for the inclusivity of all special needs and special population campers/staff
Meet with the Leadership team as needed to discuss current special needs and special populations camper and staff needs
Maintain a weekly log of all issues and success stories and submit accident/incident reports to the Camp Director as needed
Inform the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Leadership team of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns
Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person
Work with Unit Directors and Cabin counselors to address any challenging/difficult situations that are ongoing in units
Help the medical team by being a presence and supporting any issues encountered by these camper and staff populations
Work with the Camp Leadership team to determine when individuals may need treatment away from camp and/or may need to leave camp
Communicate concerns and success stories with parents and families
Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers
Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times
Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities
Capable to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR
Submit all required paperwork on time
Willingness to go above and beyond your written job description

Required

A Special Education Degree, experience as a School Para-Professional or Behavior Specialist, 2+ years' experience working with special needs and/or special populations (LGBTQIA+), and/or at least 2 years of college with a focus on special education or social work focused on special populations preferred
Current First Aid and Adult and Child, AED certifications
At least 21 years old with a valid driver's license
Desire and ability to live and work in a camp setting
Ability to assist with camp wide inclusivity initiatives and implement the camp inclusivity plan
Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Reliable, dependable, great time-management skills and ability to multi-task
Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable
Ability to assess and implement risk management procedures as needed
Ability to understand and follow directions
Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team
Successfully pass the Massachusetts mandated CORI and SORI check
Sound judgment, integrity, problem solving skills and risk management
Human relation skills with general public and staff
Physical assessment skills with children ages 7 – 18 years old

Preferred

At least 2 years of experience with special needs or special populations (LGBTQIA+) preferred
Field experience preferred
