Assistant Scientist, SOM
The University of Miami is a leading academic medical center providing patient care and conducting groundbreaking research. They are seeking an Assistant Scientist to support research activities in the division of Infectious Diseases, conduct laboratory tests, analyze data, and publish findings to enhance the University’s research goals and reputation.

Responsibilities
Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations
Collaborates with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals
Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results
Works with other researchers to use and develop end products
Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff
Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff
Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s)
Uses the Internet, surveys, legal documents, and other available sources to collect information
Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
Qualification
Required
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree required
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Collaborate with other employees, good organizational skills, and excellent computer skills required
Excellent English language skills (both verbal and written) required
Preferred
Work-related knowledge in tissue culture, molecular biology and genetics laboratory test techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, cloning of cDNA sequences, amplification of DNA sequences by PCR, protein expression techniques, protein purification, plasmid analyses by restriction digest, protein gel electrophoresis, DNA gel electrophoresis, Northern blotting, Western blotting, Southern Blotting, siRNA/DNA transfections
Work related knowledge in Direct PCR, Phusion, and Tropism Assays, HIV virus production, and envelope cloning for HIV
