Responsibilities

Ensures the development of staff by providing orientation and continuing education programs

Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures

Provides for the maintenance of necessary supplies and equipment

Assists in achieving compliance with accrediting and licensing requirements

Serves as a liaison with the operating room and other departments

Recommends quality and performance improvement initiatives

Demonstrates knowledge of and follows departmental and medical center policies and procedures

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures

Ensures employees are trained in controls within the function and on University policy and procedures

Required

High School or Equivalent

Graduate of a Vocational Training Program in Central Sterile Processing or a Surgical Tech program required

Hold one of the following certifications: CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) IAHCSMM, CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) CBSPD, CST (Certified Surgical Technician) NBSTSA

BLS certification is required from the American Heart Association

General knowledge of office procedures and operations

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail

Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence
