Assistant Scientist - Iavarone Lab

Responsibilities
Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations
Collaborates with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals
Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results
Works with other researchers to use and develop end products
Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff
Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff
Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s)
Uses the Internet, surveys, legal documents, and other available sources to collect information
Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
Adheres to University and unit‐level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
Keeps all laboratory equipment in good working order and makes minor repairs
Oversees and collaborates in the development of study tools
Evaluates the availability of resources for research studies and the impact of studies on resources
Assist with the organization of complex laboratory experimental settings, collect, analyze, and interpret lab results
Develops, implements, and maintains standard operating procedures
Reviews laboratory results and enters results into database
Coordinates trainings of new personnel and monitors performance of procedures
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures
Manage laboratory purchase of inventory, storage and supplies usage
Closely monitors all related purchasing and shipping problems
Prepare reports setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations
Assist in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations
Qualification
Required
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree required
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
