Full Stack Developer; IRS
ThunderYard Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Engineer to support the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Unified Application Programming Interface (UAPI) Group. This role involves the design, development, modernization, and maintenance of enterprise-scale APIs that enable secure and efficient data access across critical IRS systems.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable full stack web applications supporting IRS UAPI initiatives
Build and enhance RESTful and GraphQL APIs integrating multiple data sources and systems
Collaborate with architects, developers, and stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality solutions
Support deployment and operations in containerized and cloud-based environments
Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making
Ensure compliance with IRS security, performance, and quality standards
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality practices
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
Create and maintain technical documentation in support of agile development processes
Qualification
Required
Active IRS Clearance (required at time of submission)
Must be located in Washington, DC, Maryland, Dallas, TX, or Ogden, UT
Must be able to work onsite at the IRS client location as required
5–8+ years of professional full stack software development experience
Experience across both frontend and backend technologies
Demonstrated leadership through technical ownership or mentoring
Frontend frameworks: React, Angular, or Vue
Backend technologies: Node.js, Python, Java, Spark, or similar
Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills
Experience designing and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
Hands-on experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Databricks
Experience designing scalable and maintainable web applications
Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
Familiarity with caching, authentication/authorization, and secure API design
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Focus on code quality, documentation, and agile best practices
Preferred
Microservices architecture experience
Containerization with Docker and Kubernetes
Automated testing frameworks
DevOps experience supporting production systems
Performance optimization or application security expertise
Mobile/web hybrid application experience
