Deputy Parks & Recreation Director - Special Operations Division
The City of Phoenix is responsible for managing a vast array of parks and recreational facilities, and they are seeking a Deputy Parks & Recreation Director for the Special Operations Division. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and operation of various aquatic facilities, sports complexes, and ensuring the safety and quality of recreational programs while managing a significant budget and collaborating with community partners.

Responsibilities
Manage a division responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City’s 29 aquatic facilities, 3 recirculated splash pads, 8 golf courses, 4 sports complexes, forestry section, and flood irrigation
Oversee numerous contracts and operating agreements with non-profit and external partners
Ensure sites and programs are safe and well-maintained
Serve as the Department liaison with Emergency Management, the Office of Environmental Programs, the Office of Heat Response and Mitigation, and the Public Works Department on various citywide initiatives and projects
Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills while interacting with community groups, non-profit organizations, other city departments, and City Council and Mayor's Office staff
Qualification
Required
Five years of progressively responsible experience in government or non-profit large agency management positions
Including three years of experience in an administrative position with supervisory responsibility and responsibility for program management and budget administration, including management experience for capital projects
Bachelor's degree in recreation or parks management, public or business administration, or finance and accounting
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage
Preferred
Three years of experience in managing large operating budgets and capital improvement projects
Three years of experience in working with community groups, non-profits, boards and/or elected officials
Three years of experience in managing multi-site recreation facilities and maintenance programs
Three years of experience in managing golf courses and sports complexes
Three years of experience in managing environmental and regulatory compliance
