Responsibilities
Conduct independent reviews of completed federal, state, and local tax returns
Verify income, deductions, credits, and filing status against completed intake documentation
Ensure all required forms, schedules, and signatures are complete and accurate
Confirm returns are within VITA program scope
Identify errors and provide clear, professional feedback to tax preparers
Ensure compliance with IRS VITA Quality Site Requirements prior to submission
Verify adherence to Volunteer Standards of Conduct (VSC)
Document quality review completion in IRSapproved systems
Support site coordinators during IRS monitoring or audits
Qualification
Required
IRS VITA/TCE Certification Advanced (required)
Completion of Volunteer Standards of Conduct (VSC) training
Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws applicable to VITA returns
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently in a high-volume environment
Must adhere to IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct at all times
Annual completion of all required IRS certifications and exams
Compliance with all VITA quality and documentation requirements
Preferred
Prior experience as a VITA Quality Reviewer
Experience preparing and reviewing NY State tax returns (if applicable)
Familiarity with IRS site reviews and compliance standards
