The DC Department of Human Resources is seeking a Legal Instruments Examiner for the D.C. Department of Corrections. The role involves reviewing and verifying legal documents, managing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with legal statutes and correctional policies.

Responsibilities

Reviews legal documents while cross-examining the jail and court system
Conducts a range of database searches, cross reference reviews, and recordation’s relevant to allowable reimbursements for federally housed felony inmates
Checks commitment charges, sentencing information, designations, hearing, and release data in Offender Management System on billable detainees committed to the Department of Corrections
Identifies inconsistences while researching and correcting the data as needed
Identifies and understands consecutive and concurrent charges an inmate may have along with short and long-term release and sentencing dates
Prioritizes, distributes, maintains, and tracks progress of incoming data validation, invoice validation, discrepancy research, and ensures that they are following the established timetables, procedures, policies and/or directives
Works directly with key contacts within and outside the agency to ensure processes relating to billing and federal classifications for medical appointments are met within daily deadlines

Required

One (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Department of Corrections Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing
A TB Test is required prior to entry on duty
Maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years if claiming 'Residency Preference'
