ENVIRONTMENTAL MONITORING SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a skilled technician to support and manage the hospital’s environmental monitoring systems. The Environmental Monitoring Systems Technician will ensure critical areas stay safe and compliant while administering the Primex OneVue platform and responding to environmental alarms.

Responsibilities
Installs, configures, and maintains environmental monitoring sensors (temperature, humidity, pressure, water leak, refrigeration, etc.)
Administers the Primex OneVue system, including user access, dashboards, alarm pathways, and system updates
Monitors data trends, responds to alarms, and troubleshoot equipment to prevent downtime and support safe hospital environments
Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, ASHRAE, NFPA, and Life Safety standards through accurate documentation and participation in EOC inspections
Supports construction/renovation projects by adding new monitoring points and ensuring proper configuration
Provides training, technical support, and resources to staff and system users
Participates in on-call and after-hours response to address environmental alarms and maintain continuity of monitoring operations
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in Electronics, HVAC, Biomedical and two (2) years of related experience, or Technical Certification in Electronics, HVAC, Biomedical and three (3) years of related experience is required
Work experience may substitute for education requirement
High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of related experience
ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker Certification required within six months of employment
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business
Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the United States
At least 21 years of age and at least 3 years of driving experience
Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Strong customer service and communication skills
Familiarity with CMS, Joint Commission, NFPA, ASHRAE, and Life Safety requirements
Proficiency installing, configuring, calibrating, and troubleshooting monitoring devices and software
Ability to analyze environmental data, interpret trends, and recommend corrective actions
High attention to detail with documentation, calibration records, and compliance materials
Ability to respond promptly to alarms, manage competing priorities, and work independently during on-call shifts
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and ladder work
Ability to access ceiling spaces, mechanical rooms, and patient-care areas while adhering to infection control and PPE requirements
Comfortable using tools, meters, and laptops in both field and office environments
