Scientist I - Pre-Clinical Imaging

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking a Scientist I - Pre-Clinical Imaging to develop and conduct research projects in preclinical imaging. The role involves working with various imaging systems and conducting research primarily related to military topics such as traumatic brain injury.

Responsibilities

Responsible for being able to run the Bruker 7T MRI system
Work with the PET/SPECT/CT system, handling a variety of radiotracers in a preclinical imaging lab
Oversee the documentation of all procedures and monitoring of animals as required by regulations
Ensure MRI safety procedures and animal research regulations are followed
Ensure the PET/SPECT/CT laboratory meets all radiation safety and animal research regulations
Processes and interprets experimental data, including the post-processing and analysis of images
Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols
Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards
Participates in conversations with investigators and contributes to new grant and funding applications
Trains and supervises laboratory technicians, as needed
Prepares written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and conferences
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role
May participate or work with other imaging modalities as opportunities arise

Required

Doctorate Degree required
Minimum of 2-5 years experience required
Experience and knowledge in running a preclinical MRI scanner
Experience with preclinical PET/CT (Mediso-USA)
Experience with rodent handling
Experience with rodent injections
Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques
Excellent communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
Ability to work independently and supervise others
Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check
Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects
