Responsibilities

Review construction plans and inspect residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to determine compliance with applicable codes
Supervise, evaluate, and train other inspectors
Read and interpret building and construction plans and specifications
Maintain effective working relationships with builders, contractors, architects, and the general public
Prepare clear and concise reports

Required

Three years full-time experience in either the class of Building Inspector I or II in Sacramento County service performing duties which have included reviewing construction plans and inspecting residential, commercial, and/or industrial buildings to determine compliance with local, state and national codes
Three years full-time experience equivalent to the class of Building Inspector I or II performing duties which have included reviewing construction plans and inspecting residential, commercial and/or industrial buildings to determine compliance with local, state and national codes
Valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, is required prior to appointment to the positions in this class series
Ability to climb ladders, rafters and scaffolding; crawl into attics and under buildings; climb into and out of ditches and swimming pools under construction; visually trace colored electrical wiring
Complete one year of verifiable experience in the appropriate field and, within one year thereafter, to obtain certification from a recognized state, national, or international association, as determined by the County
Complete a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education every three years
