Data Center Technician

TEKsystems is a leading provider of business and technology services, and they are seeking multiple qualified candidates to support their IT department's Datacenter Technician team. The role involves preparing, staging, and troubleshooting IT hardware while ensuring compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards.

Responsibilities

Prepares, stages, sets up, and performs startups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, hard drives, switches) according to specific instructions, checklists, guides, standard protocols, and emails
Performs post-execution quality checks and verifies that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs)
Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies the cause(s) of issues, and replaces faulty components
Decommissions IT hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) following standard procedures with minimal guidance
Follows procedures to communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads
Move servers and switches to required destinations for installation
Inspect servers and switches to ensure they are not damaged
Install servers and switches and cable them according to provided wire maps
Ensure all cables are bundled neatly and in accordance with standards
Double-check with network admins to ensure everything is cabled correctly and all connections are up
Install additional components needed (NIC, Drive, Memory)
Assist in unboxing and prepping servers as needed
Audit servers and consumables
Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate the problem that the server is encountering
Order replacement parts and install them in servers and ship back the defective part to their respective vendors
Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed
Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers
Assist network admins on any issues they are having with a server, including replacing broken or damaged cables, re-routing cables to different ports on the server or switch, replacing optics on both server and switch ports, changing out parts, and installing upgraded versions of those parts in servers
Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch in a cabinet and cable it so the network admin can remotely log in and run configurations on the device
Assist network admins who reach out requesting specific assistance with servers or switches
Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality

Required

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components
Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays

Preferred

Previous datacenter experience a plus
CompTIA Certifications are desirable for this role
