Junior Commodity Trader

In this role, the trader will execute refined fuel hedging strategies, collaborate with teams to manage hedge positions, and monitor market trends to assess risk exposure.

Responsibilities

Execute and record commodity trades to balance physical inventory with hedged positions daily
Collaborate with procurement and scheduling teams to place hedge positions that mitigate pricing risk
Manage RINs and environmental credits and ensuring compliance through EPA platforms
Partner with Sales to execute swaps on fixed pricing deals
Calculate daily profit/loss for each terminal
Maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers
Develop risk management strategies for refined fuel products to limit price exposure
Propose and implement trading plans that capitalize on market and pricing trends
Build models and conduct studies using fundamental and technical analysis to proactively assess price risk
Provide and communicate market insights daily, adapting to changes driven by fundamental, technical, geopolitical, and local events
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Banking, Accounting or related discipline or equivalent work-related experience
At least three years of experience in the energy industry with a focus on fuel distribution, pricing, transportation, and trading of domestic physical petroleum products
Familiarity with index pricing (OPIS, PLATTS, ARGUS), spot pricing, US cash market, inventories and basis impact
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical skills, including math, probability, and statistics
Proven negotiation and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure environments
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a commitment to accuracy and follow-through
Ability to collaborate and build relationships based on transparency and mutual respect, both internally and externally
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting with a strong work ethic and sense of urgency
Advanced Excel skills to manage large datasets, apply complex formulas, and independently generate reports

Preferred

Knowledge of pipeline logistics
Experience with Right Angle software
