Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on wheeled military vehicles of all sizes with no weight limitations
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, steering systems, brakes, suspension systems, and drivetrains
Maintain and repair vehicle electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, starters, and lighting systems
Operate and utilize technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic equipment to complete repairs accurately
Document maintenance actions and ensure compliance with military maintenance standards and safety regulations
Conduct road tests and functional checks to verify vehicle readiness
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with installation and OSHA requirements
Support mission requirements and operational deadlines assigned

Required

Experience equivalent to U.S. Army 91 Series MOS (e.g., 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic)
Maintains tools and equipment and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment
Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary
All employees are required to have their own equipment/tools according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Proven experience working on wheeled military vehicles with no restrictions on vehicle size or weight
Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and maintenance documentation
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a military installation environment
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and components associated with vehicle maintenance
Ability to work in shop and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather, noise, and mechanical hazards
Must have valid driver's license
Ability to obtain Common Access Card (CAC)
High school diploma or GED equivalent

Preferred

5 or more years of experience working on diesel engines
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing M1097 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) and Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV)
Previous experience working under a military or Department of Defense contract
Familiarity with OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations
Prior military service or direct experience supporting military vehicle maintenance
