Corporate Safety Manager (REMOTE)
Global, a 1st Flagship Company, is a woman-owned small business specializing in Marine Support Services and Emergency Management. They are seeking a Corporate Safety Manager to develop and oversee the company-wide Safety Management System, ensure compliance with safety standards, and lead safety initiatives across various operations.
Responsibilities
Develop and oversee the company-wide Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring alignment with OSHA, NAVSEA, and federal safety standards
Manage all OSHA, NAVSEA, and federal safety compliance requirements across shipyard, industrial, and contract operations
Conduct corporate-level safety audits, site inspections, and hazard assessments at shipyards, drydocks, and onboard vessels
Build and maintain the company-wide Safety Training and Competency Program; ensure all required certifications remain current
Develop and maintain APPs, JHAs, and AHAs for all projects
Lead root cause investigations for all incidents and near-misses; manage corrective actions through closure
Build and manage safety metrics and dashboards, analyzing TRIR, DART, trends, and compliance indicators; deliver monthly and quarterly reports to senior leadership and federal clients
Lead and supervise Safety Officers/SSHOs; serve as liaison with Navy safety officials, OSHA inspectors, and federal customers
Integrate safety planning into project kickoffs, operational planning, and support ship repair expansion, ensuring safety readiness for new work scopes and facilities
Oversee subcontractor safety compliance and verify adherence to company and federal safety programs
Manage hazardous materials handling, waste management, spill prevention, and environmental documentation; coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring (air, noise, exposure)
Drive a proactive safety culture through continuous communication, coaching, and improvement initiatives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent shipyard experience)
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive safety experience in maritime or shipyard industrial environments
Demonstrated experience managing safety programs for federal ship repair and maintenance contracts (NAVSEA, MARMC, MARAD, MSC, or similar)
Knowledge of: NAVSEA Standard Items (e.g., 009-07, 009-12, 009-24, 009-32), OSHA 29 CFR 1915 Shipyard Employment standards, NFPA, ANSI, and EPA environmental health standards, Confined space entry, hot work, rigging, and crane operations safety, Environmental spill response and hazardous waste handling
OSHA 30-Hour Maritime or Construction certification required
First Aid/CPR certification required
Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Ability to travel to all sites
Preferred
OSHA 500/501 certification
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
HAZWOPER (29 CFR 1910.120) certification
