BRIDGE Project Leader

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is dedicated to promoting and improving agriculture and natural resources. The BRIDGE Project Leader is responsible for the safety, security, and training of young offenders in forestry and community-based work projects.

Responsibilities

Provide training in a variety of forestry and community-based work projects, such as fire control, forest management, trail construction, nursery work, variety of vocational projects and emergency situations
Ensure safety, security, and training of young offenders (age ranges 18-36)
Carry out duties in a variety of conditions and on a variety of state, federal, private, and public lands within the 32 counties of Western NC
Work hours are typically 8-5 Monday – Friday with evening, holiday and/or weekend work required during response to wildland fires and other all-hazard responses
Overnight travel may be required for training and other work

Required

Must be cleared by the National Criminal Information Computer (NCIC)
Must obtain certification as a Custodial Agent for the State Division of Adult Correction within 90 days of employment
Associate's degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related experience in providing forestry services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license required within 90 days of hire
Knowledge of fire control and/or firefighting techniques, or firefighting equipment, or prescribed burning
Knowledge or experience directing daily activities
Knowledge or experience in a vocational skill, such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, or mechanical systems
Ability to train and instruct
Ability to adjust to meet the needs of the Program
