RESEARCH DATA ANALYST II
The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) develops and coordinates California’s transportation policies and programs. The Research Data Analyst II will perform data management, analysis, and visualization tasks, lead collaboration on transit policy data products, and support the development of public-facing transit analytics.

Responsibilities
Independently perform a variety of tasks including data management, complex research development and execution, data analysis/visualization, and reporting on policy impacts and actions to take
Lead collaboration with a variety of teams inside and outside CalSTA and the Caltrans Division of Data & Digital Services, translating transit policy into data products with plans for ongoing maintenance and iteration
Independently seek and incorporate user feedback, develop and update products in an iterative and agile manner using version control (Github) and statistical/data science programming tools (mainly Python)
Lead the development of SB125-related data collection, performance metrics and data products for statewide use
Be the technical lead for public-facing transit analytics products, including data hosted on the Caltrans Open Data Geoportal or web-hosted visualizations/dashboards supporting the implementation of SB125 and related initiatives by Caltrans including the California Integrated Mobility Program
Be part of a community of practice with other data analysts and provide peer support for their work as requested
Qualification
Required
Expertise in data analysis and visualization, including exploratory analysis, trend identification, and descriptive statistical methods
Proficiency in data tools and programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, and Microsoft Excel for preparing reports, charts, and tables
Ability to query, compile, and manipulate complex datasets from multiple sources while ensuring data security and integrity
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions and make sound recommendations
Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize and complete multiple projects under critical timelines
Knowledge of transit data, CalSTA policies, and relevant state/federal regulations, with the ability to apply this knowledge in research and analysis
