Conservation Management Coordinator (Asst. Chief, Wildlife Management Operations)

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is dedicated to conserving and sustaining the state’s fish and wildlife resources. The Conservation Management Coordinator will oversee the Wildlife Management Division Operations Program, directing a team of biologists and managing statewide wildlife conservation initiatives.

Responsibilities

Administers the daily affairs of Wildlife Management Division Operations Program, including the direction of 31 professional biologists, and is responsible for the supervision of all program activities
Directs implementation of regional and statewide programs designed to meet the legislative mandate to manage wildlife for the citizens of the state
Development of project work plans, funding, budgets, species and habitat management plans, and other resource programs dealing with wildlife populations and the citizens of North Carolina
Directly supervises regional wildlife supervisors, the Regulated Activities Supervisor, and the Wildlife Habitat Coordinator
Oversees human resources management for permanent and temporary employees
Represents the Division and has decision-making authority when the Division Chief is unavailable
Provides leadership, guidance and support in the organization and execution of program activities
Develops and tracks success for strategic goals related to private land conservation initiatives
Attends joint meetings with other agency and division staff members
Helps to plan and monitor ongoing projects
Provides technical expertise relative to overall activities
Conducts regular section/project meetings to assess program status and reviews monthly and quarterly activity and progress reports
Assesses program effectiveness and provides guidance and support to improve effectiveness and efficiency

Required

Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, fisheries science, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of related experience
Familiar with a state wildlife agency's structure, political realities, the regulation process, and technical aspects of the job
Understanding of the advanced principles of scientific methods, biological techniques, zoology, botany, statistics, forestry, and ecology are necessary
Motivational and personnel management skills to guide personnel under his/her direct supervision in accomplishing predetermined and changing program goals, objectives, and policies
Accomplished communication skills to coordinate with resource professionals, relay technical information to employees, and to the public
