Sign Specialist

Responsibilities
Assists with prioritizing work assignments and determining work procedures
Utilizes department computer software and hardware to design, print, and fabricate all traffic and custom signs
Coordinates with various County departments to verify sign requirements and specificity and fulfill extra-departmental sign requests
Operates hand held, electric, and pneumatic tools and equipment in sign fabrication
Allocates and documents materials used in sign production
Assists supervisor in resource reconciliation to tasks and work orders and compiles documentation for billable work
Collects field data on signs with handheld GPS units and logs information into an electronic sign database
Maintains shop supply and material inventories and communicates sign-related material inventory anticipations and replenishments with Supply staff
Assists in the installation of signs and guardrail, painting of roadways, removal of nuisance items from traffic areas, and clearing of brush and debris from posted signs and traffic devices
Ensures compliance with shop equipment maintenance requirements
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in data processing and report management
Successful completion of training in erecting road signs in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) within one (1) year of hire
Successful completion of MUTOH's Ultimate Flexi Training Course within one (1) year of hire
Experience with Windows Operating systems
Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Experience with sign or graphic design software
Valid driver license
Must obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Maintenance of Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level 1 certification within one (1) year of hire
Must be able to operate a variety of hand-held, electrical, and/or gas-powered equipment and tools
Must be able to exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
Must be able to perform manual labor and remain on feet for extended periods of time with exposure to outside atmospheric conditions
Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English
Requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions
Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation
Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions
Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline
Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public
