Responsibilities

Accurately utilizes information systems to accession, input patient information, input and verify physician information, verify and modify lab orders as needed

Correctly and accurately registers patients into the hospital registration system

Efficiently cross checks orders in LIS against written scripts

Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs instruments and lab equipment if possible

Reconciles patient identifiers between specimens and requisitions prior to accession and communicates, investigates, and resolves any discrepancies

Will unload and unpack all specimens for testing in the appropriate laboratory departments

Determine if specimens meet laboratory standards upon receipt, document any quality issues, and ensure specimens are discarded appropriately

Informs nursing, phlebotomy, and medical staff about unsuitable specimens and inappropriate collection

Answers phones, look up and fax reports to physicians offices

Assists with loading and unloading of blood culture specimens

Checks pending list and collection list

File and scan documents when needed

Will assist with the sending out of specimens and maintaining a proper record of reference lab testing as time allow

Continuously demonstrates a patient focused work attitude that supports and improves Patient Satisfaction for all customer groups

Serves as a role model for patient customer service

Demonstrates a proactive work ethic and promote teamwork between departments and shifts by assisting coworkers wherever and whenever possible to complete the patient workload efficiently

Mentor students and new employees and serves as a role model for coworkers
