Transportation Engineer I/II
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer I/II to perform transportation engineering work in various functional areas such as planning, project development, design, and maintenance. The role involves ensuring compliance with state and federal laws while assisting in overseeing the district’s maintenance program and optimizing pavement preservation efforts.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district
Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions
Performs engineering analysis of statewide pavement conditions and develops reports on pavement conditions
Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement conditions
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions
Trains engineering staff
Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
Transportation Engineer I: 4 years of experience
Transportation Engineer II: 5 years of experience
Experience must be in engineering, transportation engineering, or engineering-related
Valid driver's license
Safety Impact Certificate
Licensed Prof Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States must meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
