Responsibilities
Lead all day-to-day accounting/bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and monthly close
Prepare and maintain accurate internal financial reports, statements, and dashboards to support operational and leadership decision-making
Oversee and improve the development of and compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and audit readiness across the organization
Collaborate with program and development teams to lead grant budgeting, fund allocations, and reporting compliance
Manage accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds, proactively identifying grant spending needs, underspend, or reallocation opportunities in conjunction with programs leadership
Identify and lead any budget modifications necessary to ensure accurately and timely spenddown for all grants
Serve as the primary financial contact for all grants, particularly JustGrants, and prepare and submit timely financial data for grant reporting and compliance requirements in collaboration with the CFO and Development staff
Maintain real time understanding of and compliance with all Federal and state government funding requirements
Optimize financial systems and workflows, particularly Sage Intacct, for streamlined reporting, forecasting, and department-level dashboards
Work with Love146’s outsourced accounting firm to ensure data integrity, automation, and full realization of software capabilities
Monitor and support the automation of budget vs. actual reporting and real-time access for budget owners
Provide real-time financial insights and modeling to inform organizational strategy, cost allocations, and funding renewals
Conduct audit prep, risk mitigation, cash flow reporting, and sustainability modeling
Maintain strong documentation and processes to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance continuity
Supervise bookkeepers, ensuring task completion and skills development
Collaborate with program directors and managers to ensure financial fluency and understanding of budgets and grant obligations
Foster a culture of financial clarity, accountability, and service to mission across the organization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
6–8+ years of nonprofit financial operations experience, with 3+ in a Controller or supervisory role
Proven success managing complex funding streams (federal/state grants, private foundations, donor restrictions)
Deep knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and audit processes
Technical fluency with Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills — especially with non-finance audiences
Preferred
Salesforce experience a plus
