CSEA Support Attorney

Delaware County, Ohio is seeking a CSEA Support Attorney to provide legal counsel and representation to the Child Support Enforcement Agency. The role involves investigating, preparing, and litigating civil actions related to child support, as well as writing and approving appeals.

Responsibilities

Analyzes case law; reviews rules of procedures, researches legal issues; drafts various legal documents; prepares for hearings, pre-trials and trials; reviews and negotiates resolutions and settlements, reviews and makes determinations regarding adequacy of due process for proceeding with action/litigation
Prepares cases for trial and litigation by interviewing witnesses, performing legal research, investigating, and preparing evidence, and evaluating the strength of the case. Conducts trial litigation of cases through presentation of testimony (direct and cross-examination) and evidence
Represents, researches, analyzes and interprets facts and law in child support matters for investigation
Negotiates admissions and agreements with defense attorneys
Works to further the Agency’s mission during litigation proceedings, assisting the parties to work together to reach agreements for the benefit of the child(ren), attempting to resolve enforcement action prior to entering the courtroom, attempting to resolve disagreements between the parties, providing parties with information and resources as needed
Reviews Child Support Enforcement Agency cases and discusses strategies and course of action with the Director, Supervisors and Case Managers
Assists Child Support Enforcement Agency Case Managers in the enforcement, collection and calculation of child support
Serves as hearing officer and renders decisions for Child Support Enforcement Agency’s administrative and mistake of fact hearings, as needed
Locates and verifies addresses in cases where there is failure of service or outstanding warrants and contacts law enforcement officials in other jurisdictions to seek their assistance in serving warrants
Receives and responds to calls from the public regarding complaints and/or legal inquiries
Conducts post-judgment litigation through all phases as necessary through written Objections and responses, written Appellate briefs and responses, and oral arguments
Drafts and types correspondence, numerous court documents (such as Complaints, Motions, Agreed Judgment Entries and Proposed Judgment Entries, responsive pleadings, Briefs, etc.)
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
Drives vehicles to various locations as required
Attends various training sessions, video conferences, and workshops
Hold as confidential, all aspects of the job
Performs typing, word processing, and related computer operations
Works outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required; and
Other duties as required

Required

Juris Doctor degree is required, and must be licensed, admitted, and be in good standing with the Ohio Bar for practice as an Attorney in the State of Ohio
Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business as a continued condition of employment
Must maintain required licensures and certifications as a continued condition of employment
