ACCOUNTING OFFICER (SPECIALIST)

The California Department of Developmental Services is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. They are seeking an Accounting Officer (Specialist) to perform professional accounting duties, including the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records, as well as the analysis and processing of travel and reimbursement claims.

Responsibilities

Perform professional accounting duties of average difficulty in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for the Department Headquarters (HQ) and the State Operated Facilities (SOFs) activities
Analyzing, auditing, and processing all travel and reimbursement claim transactions utilizing the California Automated Travel Expense Reimbursement System (CalATERS) and The Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal)
Perform tasks in accordance with Accounting and Fiscal Services Section (AFSS) guidelines, State Administrative Manual (SAM), the Uniform Codes Manual, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), State Controller’s Office (SCO) policies, and applicable State and Federal laws

Required

Under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), over the Cashiering and Travel Unit, the Accounting Officer (Specialist) performs professional accounting duties of average difficulty in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for the Department Headquarters (HQ) and the State Operated Facilities (SOFs) activities
The incumbent is responsible for analyzing, auditing, and processing all travel and reimbursement claim transactions utilizing the California Automated Travel Expense Reimbursement System (CalATERS) and The Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal)
Performs tasks in accordance with Accounting and Fiscal Services Section (AFSS) guidelines, State Administrative Manual (SAM), the Uniform Codes Manual, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), State Controller's Office (SCO) policies, and applicable State and Federal laws
This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States
The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position
Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change
Incumbent must live and work in California
All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate
During peak times including year-end processing, request for leave will be limited and approved on a case-by-case basis
Work pre-approved overtime when necessary to meet deadlines
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than two pages in length

If you are basing your eligibility on educational requirements, you MUST provide a legible copy of your degree or transcripts (unofficial is acceptable) as proof of meeting the education requirement as listed in the Classification Specification

The MQs will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment
If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the MQs of the classification, the applicant may not be considered and withheld from the eligible list

Preferred

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of financial record keeping; basic principles of accounting; office methods, procedures, and equipment; GAAP principles and procedures
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook
Ability to: Work independently and in a team environment
Ability to analyze data/situations and draw sound conclusions accurately and adopt an effective course of action
