The NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) is dedicated to building and renovating public schools in New York City. They are seeking Structural Engineers or Civil Engineers to perform various technical roles and oversee in-house design projects, ensuring quality and compliance throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities

Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed
Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects
Perform and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications
Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies
May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer/Architect B or Engineer/Architect C, Managing Architect, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers and Architects
May direct Associate Engineers/Architects and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, and/or Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP)
Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects
Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project
Conduct site observations
Prepare field reports
Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals
Review reports
Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects
Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or New Building Projects
Maintain and develops general understanding of architectural and engineering principles
May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings
Perform related duties, as assigned
Engineer B may supervise lower-level Architects and Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Architects and Associate Engineers, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians
Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects
May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in the architectural discipline
May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops
Provides mentoring for professional development of lower level employees
Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures
May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects and does design review of outside consultants
Performs related tasks
Performs the duties of Architect - A when necessary
Engineer - C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, and manages team members and/or contractors on projects to achieve the objectives of the Authority
Works as a project leader on multiple, complex construction projects and major design and exploration programs to plan, assign, direct, manage, and supervise the work of stakeholders such as Engineers, Architects, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers, Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, resolving any problems that occur
Manages multiple projects simultaneously
Ensures compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule
Performs design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects
Assists in preparing new design standards and procedures
May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects
May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings
May perform duties of Engineer - B and/or Engineer - A
Performs related duties, as assigned

Required

Baccalaureate Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university/college
A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer for Level A
A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer for Level B; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader
A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer for Level C; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility
Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels
Selective Certification for Special Experience: Electrical: a minimum of four years of experience specializing in electrical work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning: a minimum of four years of experience specializing in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required
Plumbing and Drainage: a minimum of four years of experience specializing in plumbing and drainage work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required
Structural: a minimum of four years of experience specializing in structural work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required
