The City of Albuquerque is seeking a Telecommunication Operator I to handle incoming emergency and non-emergency calls. This role involves screening, evaluating, and disseminating critical information while maintaining precision and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using a multi-line phone system; screen, evaluate, provide assistance, coordinate and disseminate critical information via specialized computer and communication systems, and/or refer calls to the appropriate person/department; perform multiple activities simultaneously by responding to communications and events while maintaining precision, accuracy and swift response times; work in a team setting while receiving training and coaching from various sources; complete NCIC checks and perform other technical tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Combination of two (2) years of data entry, multi-line phone or customer service experience
Must possess a valid certified typing test issued by a state agency, county agency or an accredited educational institution with a minimum score of forty (40) net WPM
Must pass Drug Test, Hearing Test, Criminal Records check, and Background check
Must pass CritiCall computer-based assessment
Must be able to work holidays, weekends, irregular hours and shift work may be required with possible extension of shift hours, at times with short notice
One (1) year probationary period is required for this position
For Telecommunication Operator I C1 (Non-Certified): Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within one (1) year from date of hire
For Telecommunication Operator I C1C (Certified): Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification
Preferred
Processing public service calls in a law enforcement, open space or fire agency is preferred
Possession of National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certification preferred
Possession of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification within six (6) months from date of hire
Rules and regulations governing the operation of communications radio transmittal and receiving system
Emergency communications procedures and rules
Principles and procedures used in operating 9-1-1 systems
Principles and procedures of records keeping
General law enforcement codes, practices and methods
Effective decision making/problem solving based on a limited amount of information in crisis or emergency situations
Basic computer systems and modern office equipment
Methods and techniques used to search computer databases and obtain information
Basic radio broadcasting and communications procedures and rules
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and safety regulations
City geography
Draw reasonable conclusions from information that may be conveyed by citizens in a disjointed manner
Operate emergency communication systems
Work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
Effectively communicate with and elicit information from citizens in traumatic or crisis situations
Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Maintain an accurate typing speed of forty (40) WPM
Operate a computer terminal, teletype and other office equipment
Read a City map
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
Maintain security and confidentiality of information
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Maintain records, files and logs
Interpret and explain city policies and procedures
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
Maintain mental capacity and alertness, which allows for effective interaction and communication with others
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for successful performance of assigned duties
